5 listopada 1984 roku ukazało się koncertowe wydawnictwo Real To Reel. Album miał za zadanie podsumować ostatnią trasę oraz osłodzić oczekiwanie przed kolejnym albumem. Popularność Marillion szybko rosła. Nagrania pochodzą z występów w De Montfort Hall Leicester z 5 marca oraz z Spectrum Theatre w Montrealu z 19 i 20 marca. Na stronie pierwszej znalazły się kompozycje; Assassing, Incubus oraz Cinderella Search, natomiast na drugiej; Forgotten Sons dedykowany ofiarom ataku na dom towarowy Harrods w Londynie przez IRA z grudnia ’83, następnie Garden Party i Market Square Heroes. Wersja cyfrowa zawierała dodatkowo utwór Emerland Lies, który szybko zniknął z repertuaru koncertowego Marillion. Swoje wspaniałe możliwości prezentuje na tym wydawnictwie Ian Mosley. To pierwsze wydawnictwo koncertowe z Ianem jako perkusistą Marillion. Jednocześnie muzycy starali się zaprezentować taki repertuar, który jak najdokładniej odzwierciedli jakość znaną nam z studyjnych płyt Marillion. Real To Reel to koncertowa pocztówka, która doskonale pokazuje nam w którym momencie rozwoju był wtedy Marillion. Gdy płyta ukazywała się, zespół już pracował nad Misplaced Childhood. Co ciekawe początkowo miała nosić nazwę Curtain Call, czyli tak jak wydany w 2004 roku koncertowy box Marillion z serii Front Row Club, dokumentujący czasy Fisha w Marillion. Album Real To Reel osiągnął 8 miejsce brytyjskiej listy przebojów i utrzymywał się na niej przez osiem tygodni. Autorem okładki był oczywiście Mark Wilkinson a przedstawia ona wszystkich członków Marillion w kole czasu. W roku 1997 Real To Reel został ponownie wydany przez EMI, ale jako bonus dostaliśmy mini album wydany na rynku amerykańskim Brief Encounter, który w Kanadzie nosił nazwę The Story So Far.
